The aim is to represent the true\u00a0state of the point measured. The portable\u00a0equipment permits great fl exibility, but on\u00a0the other hand, it does not permit the follow\u00a0up of the energy consumption after the\u00a0appropriate decisions have been made.<\/p>\n<p>It is recommended to study the points\u00a0where the measurements are taken for\u00a0the subsequent installation of a fixed\u00a0measurement system that communicates\u00a0with the PowerStudio Scada management software. They can be classifi ed as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visible costs<\/li>\n<li>Hidden costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1- Visible costs<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>These are the costs included in the electricity bill:<\/li>\n<li>Power contracted not appropriate<\/li>\n<li>Electricity tariff not appropriate<\/li>\n<li>Hourly energy consumption<\/li>\n<li>Demand peaks<\/li>\n<li>Reactive energy consumption<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How are they reduced<\/strong><br \/>\nBy studying the electricity bill, the actions needed to reduce the global cost can be defi ned.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adjust the contracted power and change the tariff if necessary. This can be done at almost\u00a0no cost. Nonetheless, before adjusting the contracted power or tariff, it is recommended to\u00a0study the processes and the power consumption to see if the demand is adjusted to the\u00a0real needs<\/li>\n<li>Eliminating extra charge or cost of reactive energy by its compensation. To do this, a capacitor\u00a0bank is installed, which in most cases pays for itself within a few months after installation<\/li>\n<li>Damping the peaks of maximum demand. This concept is especially important in electric\u00a0distribution and in industrial plants with long distance lines<\/li>\n<li>Machine breakdowns (motors, transformers, converters, etc.) and control equipment\u00a0(computers, PLCs)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Costs in productive processes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Installation stoppages<\/li>\n<li>Non-finished product losses<\/li>\n<li>Additional costs in extra working time and manpower<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How are they reduced<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>By performing an effi ciency study of the building or industrial plant.<\/li>\n<li>By correcting the technical costs explained in the previous point.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Which are the benefits of improving visible and hidden economical costs<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduced energy consumption<\/li>\n<li>Decrease of the electricity bill<\/li>\n<li>No need to invest in the extension of installations due to the lack of capacity<\/li>\n<li>Productivity improving by reducing the number of breakdowns and stoppages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Ecological costs<\/h4>\n<p><strong>What are they<\/strong><br \/>\nCO2 emissions produced by the consumption of unnecessary energy.<br \/>\nTo give an idea of its\u00a0magnitude, 1 MW\u00b7h generated by fossil fuels emits 1 ton of CO2. If considering mixed electric\u00a0energy generated by fossil fules and renewable energy sources, the ratio is approximately 0.6\u00a0tons of CO2 per MW\u00b7h.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How are they reduced<\/strong><br \/>\nBy making a general proposal to reduce global energy consumption in an industrial plant or\u00a0building.
